How to capture Windows USB Logs

The following procedure will capture logs from the Microsoft xHCI host driver and USB driver stack associated with it in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.  The files generated can be viewed with Microsoft Message Analyzer.
  1. Extract the attached file.
  2. Double click on the “Enable_Win_Inbox_USB_logging.reg” file and choose “Yes” to allow the registry entries to be added to the system registry.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. After the computer has restarted, USB logs are always being captured.
  5. Do whatever needs to be logged and then run the Win_Inbox_USB_logdump.bat file.
  6. A directory named with the current date & time will be created on the desktop and the USB logs will be stored in that directory.
