Capture Useful Crash Dump

If your computer is crashing, a useful crash dump file will help us find the issue more quickly.

Enable crash dumps:
  1. Download the kernel_dump_control.zip file attached to this article.
  2. Right click on it and choose "Extract all..."
  3. Find the enable_kernel_dump.bat file and right click on it.
  4. From the menu that appears, choose "Run as administrator".
Do whatever it is that has been causing a crash.
If the crash is caused by plugging in an adapter, unplug the adapter after the computer starts to reboot so another crash doesn't happen.

After the system reboots:
  1. Find the MEMORY.DMP file.  It will be located in the windows directory.  Usually c:\windows
  2. Drag the MEMORY.DMP file to the desktop.
  3. Right click on the MEMORY.DMP file and choose "Send to.."  then "Compressed (zipped) folder"  This should create MEMORY.zip file on your desktop.
  4. Send the zipped file to support using dropbox, google drive or ask support for an upload link.
Disable crash dumps:
  1. Find the default_crash_behavior file and right click on it.
  2. From the menu that appears, choose "Run as administrator".
  3. Delete the MEMORY.DMP and MEMORY.zip files to free up disk space.
